Not oh-my-god-I-want-a-burger-right-now hungry.
I mean really hungry.
As in nothing-nutritious-in-the-cupboard hungry. Nothing to feed yourself. Or your kids.
Chances are, you don’t remember.
But nearly 400,000 people in the DC region risk staring into an empty cupboard every day.
The Capital Area Food Bank ensures that risk is mitigated. By putting food in those cupboards. Nutritious, filling food. For parents and kids.
Last year, with the help of 34 other organizations – our clients and colleagues – we collected more than 13 tons of food for the CAFB. That’s more than 27,000 pounds. 27,000 meals. 27,000 times someone didn’t have to stare into an empty cupboard.
As we say goodbye to winter and “Hello, Spring!” we’re gearing up for our 9th annual food drive for CAFB. It’s a critical time of year, because the holiday stockpiles are starting to run low, and many of us are already busy planning our spring vacations. Summer trips are just over the horizon.
Before you pack those bags, how about packing a lunch for someone else?
Though the economy is on a tepid rebound, the hunger risk many of our neighbors live with day in and day out hasn’t dissipated. That’s why we’re committed to helping the CAFB meet the great need for nutrition in our community.
And we’re asking you to help.
